Top Tips for Seniors to Stay Healthy

When we reach retirement age, life takes a big turn, as we no longer bear the responsibility of holding down a job and hopefully, we have some financial security now that we have the time to do those things we dreamed of. Of course, good health should never be taken for granted and if you are fast approaching your retirement, here are a few tips to keep you fit and healthy.

  • Know your limits – As we age, our physical abilities begin to deteriorate, and we can no longer run that 800m in super-fast time. Accidents can easily happen if we don’t accept that ageing means slowing down; those who enjoy assisted living near Riverdale are lucky because they have the care that they need when they need it.
  • Stay active – The human body is designed for action and the quickest way for a retired person to go to seed is to sit around and do nothing. Get that mountain bike out for a 5 mile ride every morning and you’ll be glad you do! Create a suitable workout that generates body sweat, which is a sign that your body has been put through its paces. Walking is good for the soul – a morning stroll and an evening ramble is perfect.
  • Balanced diet – You are what you eat, or so the saying goes and you should ensure that your diet includes fresh fruit and vegetables, preferably organic. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and it’s OK to indulge now and then.
  • Daily supplement – Everyone over the age of 60 should take an A-Z supplement in the morning, as this ensures you are not lacking in essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients. There are several brands and the cheapest prices are online; buy a 3-month jar and you are good to go.
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff – Life is full of ups and downs and we shouldn’t get too attached to minor issues. A positive mindset is a very powerful agent to longevity and good health, always look on the bright side!

Have a 6-monthly health check-up even if you feel fine and your GP can monitor your vitals, check blood pressure and carry out a few blood tests. We hope the above tips help you to transition into your golden years.
